Are you putting together a fall and/or leaves lesson plan? Here are 10 leaf templates for fall for you to include as a fun art project!
It’s fall finally! Which just so happens to be my favorite season of the year. The crisp air and beautiful colors always leave me feeling extra creative. My only wish is that we would get a longer fall season, but up here in Northern Michigan winter tends to arrive super fast!
Last week in our homeschool preschool class, to celebrate this season a little more, we did a unit study on LEAVES!
Our main art project was a simple one. I created 10 different leaf templates and printed them out on cardstock so that they could paint one. It was so fun to see all the different color blends the kids created for their leaves!
I also created this “Silly Monster Leaf” packet – it comes with things like silly eyes and scary mouths for kids to cut out and create their very own silly monster leaf (I’ll post a link to it here once it is available on my store). My kids enjoyed using these on their painted leaf templates 🙂
Here is a preview of the 10 different templates included in the PDF download (see image below)!

10 Leaf Templates for Fall
This printable is a simple one. Just print it out on cardstock and start painting!
You could also use crayons, markers, or pencils.
Or try using a glue stick and crepe paper to create a 3D art project!
This project can easily turn into a beautiful fall decoration for your classroom! I plan to hang my kids leaves from the ceiling in our homeschool room until it’s time to decorate for Christmas 🙂
Materials Needed:
- Cardstock (or heavy printer paper)
- Your favorite paint
- Paintbrush
- Cup of water
- Paper towel or something to dry off your brush
If you are painting this, just be sure to print the template out onto cardstock or some sort of heavier printer paper.
Going the glue and crepe paper route? Just make sure to have some glue handy and cut out your crepe/tissue paper beforehand into small squares. You will want your student to crumple up each square individually and glue them on one at a time.
*Make sure that they only crumple and glue one piece on at a time! If they use too many pieces of paper squished together at once, it won’t stick well to the paper or hold the crumpled look.
I hope you and your students enjoy using these leaf templates! Drop a photo and/or comment below – I’d love to see how they turned out!
