So excited that it is almost DAY #1 of Christmas School!
If you are here for the first time and haven’t grabbed my free Christmas school calendar yet, you can download it below! You can also join our Christmas School FB group here π
Starting now, I will be creating a separate blog post for EACH special day – full of links, printables, YouTube audiobook stories, and anything else to help make this EASY on you. The whole point of this is to pick what your kids would enjoy the most and then just have fun together. Don’t plan to do EVERYTHING (unless you guys are feeling ambitious that day π ).
Can’t wait to do this together!
Day #1. Christmas Tree Day!
Here is what we are planning to do today π
Just a reminder that my kids are in 5th, 3rd, and Kindergarten grades. If you have different ages and feel like what we are doing isn’t something your kids would be interested in, feel free to scroll below! I’ll add more activity ideas at the bottom of each blog post.
Activities
I am going to let my kids pick between doing this Christmas tree fingerprint art OR Christmas tree tessellation art project. Honestly, I think my older two will end up choosing both. If you feel like leaving me a review at my TPT shop afterwards, THANK YOU!! I’d love to hear what you guys think – plus my teeny, tiny shop would appreciate the stars π
Fingerprint Christmas Tree Art Activity
This is geared more towards my younger kids (but I know my oldest will enjoy it too). I also wrote a small poem on the printable π You can print this template here! You’ll have your kids use their fingers and green paint to create the branches.
After they are finished with their branches, they can use their fingers again or some paintbrushes or Q-tips to dab on paint for ornaments!
Don’t forget to paint the star too π
Christmas Tree Tessellation Art Project
This activity might be a little hard for really young kids, but it’s definitely a fun challenge for older kids! There are two different designs to choose from or you can combine both of them like this photo! You can grab this template here.
Just print it out and start coloring the Christmas trees and creating different designs! You could also print these out on cardstock and paint them instead π
Once your kids are done coloring and cutting out their Christmas trees, they will want to start playing around with their design on some construction paper!
After they create their pattern, it’s time to glue down the trees π
This can be as creative or as simple as you want! I’d love to see the designs they come up with, so definitely tag me @theseasonalhomeschool if you decide to share either of these projects online!
Snack
I made these healthy Christmas trees using kiwi slices, raspberries, blueberries, and a slice of cheese cut into a star with my cookie cutter! My youngest didn’t want the kiwi though (he is my pickiest one), so I did apple slices instead!
We also splurged on some Reese’s Christmas trees – the kids spotted them at Aldis earlier in the day and of course, how could I say no on Christmas Tree Day π
Or you could also do this sugar cone edible tree. This is the activity that we did last year for Christmas Tree Day and they loved it, of course!
Books
(Note: I only skimmed these books, so be sure to skim it also if you want to make sure it’s something your family values align with).
We’ll be reading “A Wish to be a Christmas Tree” by Colleen Monroe today. I also wanted to read, “Night Tree” by Eve Bunting!
In case you don’t make it to the library, here are the YouTube Read Aloud links for these books π
Do You Have More Time? Here Are Some Extra Ideas!
#1. If you haven’t put up your Christmas tree yet, today would be an awesome day to do so! We have a second Christmas tree that we put up downstairs near our kids playroom and school room, so we’ll be setting that up today. π
#2. Do your kids like playdoh? If you have some straws on hand, cut them up and let them create some STEM Christmas Trees!
I hope you guys have a wonderful day! I can’t wait to see everything you and your kids create and do! Check back soon for my Candy Day Christmas School post π
