I don’t know about you, but my kids have been counting down the days until Winter School starts! Scroll below for ALL the activity ideas I have for you to choose from today!
Just as it was with Christmas School, please know that you do NOT have to do everything in this blog post! You could just pick one thing to do, if that is all you have time for! The whole point of Winter School is to just have fun with your kids and to learn something together (in a fun way) after you are finished with your regular school lessons.
So, if anything feels stressful, skip it 🙂 And just have fun and enjoy being with each other!
Are you new to Winter School 2024? No worries! You can learn more about it here and join our Winter School FB group as well🙂 If you need to print out the Winter School Calendar, scroll to the bottom of this post and pop your email in so I can send it to you!
Keep reading below for more about Winter Weather Day!
Day #1. Winter Weather Day!
Here is what we are planning to do on Monday! 🙂
Activities
IMPORTANT NOTE: These printable activities will be FREE for you to download, but only until Winter Weather Day is over! So, make sure to download them even if you are going to do Winter Weather Day later in the week – that way you can still snag them for free. If you could leave a review behind afterwards, that would be amazing too! THANK YOU!! 🥰❤️
#1. Snowstorm in a Jar Science Experiment
You can grab this worksheet here! I stopped at the dollar store on Friday and STOCKED up on baby oil/Alka seltzer tablets because I know my kids are going to love this! You can redo this over and over again by adding new Alka Seltzer tablet pieces.
I also included a video below that shows this experiment, if you’d like to see it play out beforehand!
#2. Label the Winter Weather Worksheet
Do your kids like worksheets? Mine do (most days anyways 😆)!
After you read some books and/or watch some of the videos, have your kids fill out this worksheet!
#3. Roll-A-Color Winter Hat Art
Grab some dice, print this winter hat out, and have fun coloring! Or print this out on cardstock and paint instead!
There is one worksheet with six colors already picked out. But there is also another worksheet that has empty spots so you can customize which six colors they can to color with.
Snack
Snack time today is a BUILD YOUR OWN YOGURT SNOWMAN!
You’ll want to use Greek yogurt (since it’s thicker) – add some blueberries and clementine slices off to the side so your kids can build their own snowman face on top of the yogurt!
Books
(Note: Some of these books are new to me, so be sure to skim it beforehand if you want to make sure it’s something your family values align with).
Today we’ll be reading, “The Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats and also “Winter is Here” by Kevin Henkes.
Here are the YouTube Read Aloud links for these books 🙂
Educational Videos
Pick and choose (or watch all of) the videos below to learn more about Winter Weather!❄️
Do You Have More Time? Here Are Some Extra Ideas!
#1. Grab some cotton balls, spoons, and set up a relay race for your kids! They can either race you or they can race each other to see how many cotton balls they can get in a bucket (using a spoon to carry them). Put on a timer and go!
#2. Try some Winter Charades! Write down some winter-related words on strips of paper and take turns picking one to act out!
#3. Follow along to draw this Winter Landscape at Art for Kids Hub.
#4. Or if your kids want a challenge, draw this Winter Village!
I hope you guys have a wonderful first day of Winter School! 💙
PS: Check back soon for my blog post about Snowflake Day! 🙂
