Snowy Owl Day is here! 🦉

Day #4. Snowy Owl Day!
Here is some of what we are planning to do on Thursday! 🙂
Activities
IMPORTANT NOTE: These printable activities will be FREE for you to download, but only until Snowy Owl Day is over! So, make sure to download them even if you are going to do Snowy Owl Day later in the week – that way you can still snag them for free. If you could leave a review behind afterwards, that would be amazing too! THANK YOU!! 🥰❤️
#1. Owl Pellet Experiment
For today, I grabbed this Owl Pellet Kit from Amazon last week! If you didn’t get one (or if you don’t want to do one), you could watch the video below to do a “virtual dissection” and avoid any smelly mess!
Maybe I should have opted for that instead. 😅
#2. Label the Snowy Owl Worksheet
This Label the Snowy Owl Worksheet comes with a word bank at the bottom of the page and an answer key on the next page.
I’m going to have my kids continue to do these label worksheets after watching the educational videos (those links are below if you scroll down).
#3. Baby Snowy Owl Art
You’ll first want to print out this PDF and grab a piece of construction paper.
Have your kid(s) cut out the tree branch and then glue it onto the paper.
Using a plastic fork and white paint, have them stamp the paint to create the shapes of the baby snowy owls.
Once it is dry, have your child(ren) cut out and glue on the wings, eyes, and beaks!
#4. Snowy Owl Mini Research Book (Writing Activity)
I made this mini book project so that my kids could have something in hand to take notes on while we watch some of the educational videos below.
I’ve found that it’s really helpful to build their listening skills and to help them pay better attention, if they have some specific information to listen for.
You will want to print these two pages DOUBLE-SIDED and flip it on the short edge. Cut once down the blue line. Fold both pieces of paper and then tuck the bottom piece into the top piece. Make sure the page numbers line up before stapling shut.
Snack
Snack time today is a Snowy Owl apple!
All you’ll need is a large apple slice (with peanut butter on it, if desired) for the bottom, 2 smaller apple slices for the wings, 2 banana slices & 2 blueberries for the eyes, a small slice from a clementine for the beak, and cheerios for the body.
Books
(Note: Some of these books are new to me, so be sure to skim it beforehand if you want to make sure it’s something your family values align with).
Today we’ll be reading, “Owl Moon” by Jane Yolen, “Snowy Owl Invasion!: Tracking an Unusual Migration” by Sandra Markle, and “Snowy Owl Family Animal Adventures” by Sarah Toast.
Here is the YouTube Read Aloud for Owl Moon. I couldn’t find the other books as a read aloud option on YouTube, so I grabbed a couple extra Owl read aloud videos. 🙂
Educational Videos
Pick and choose (or watch all of) the videos below to learn more about snowy owls!❄️
Do your kids like watching the Wild Kratts? You can watch their full episode here on Snowy Owls!
Or here is something shorter!
Here is a full documentary about snowy owls if you have older kids who would be interested in knowing more! As always, I recommend watching it with them in case it becomes too much.
Do You Have More Time? Here Are Some Extra Ideas!
#1. If your kids need something more active, try playing “Hoot & Seek”…kind of like Marco Polo and Hide & Seek together. Everyone hides, except the seeker. When the seeker starts to search, he or she must give an owl hoot and everyone hiding gives a quiet hoot back. Continue with the hoots until everyone is found.
#2. Follow along to draw this snowy owl over at Art for Kids Hub.
I hope you guys enjoyed learning about snowy owls! 💙 If you need to print out the Winter Calendar still, drop your email below and I’ll send it right over!
PS: Check back soon for my blog post about Arctic Fox Day! 🙂
