Today is all about KINDNESS and how loving others means that we are kind to them! Scroll below to see all of my activity ideas for today. 🥰
Are you new to Valentine School 2024? No worries! You can learn more about it here and join our Valentine School FB group as well🙂 If you need to print out the Valentine School Calendar, scroll to the bottom of this post and pop your email in so I can send it to you!
Keep reading below for more about Love is Kind Day!
Day #1. Love is Kind Day!
Here is some of what we are planning to do on Tuesday! 🙂 If you purchased the Valentine School bundle, there are discussion questions included for each day. I recommend reading those beforehand or while you’re waiting on an experiment or doing an art activity!
Activities
IMPORTANT NOTE: These printable activities will be FREE for you to download, but only until Love is Kind Day is over! So, make sure to download them even if you are going to do Love is Kind Day later in the week – that way you can still snag them for free. If you could leave a review behind afterwards, that would be amazing too! THANK YOU!! 🥰❤️
#1. Magic Milk Valentine Science Experiment
You’ll need some whole milk, food coloring, dish soap, shallow dish (I used a pie pan), and something to dab the dish soap with (I used a Q-tip) AND this worksheet! After filling out their worksheet and putting some whole milk in the dish, they will drop some food coloring into the milk. You can use pink, red, and purple colors to make this festive for Valentine’s Day!
Next, they’ll coat the end of a Q-tip or toothpick with dish soap and dab it in the milk. The colors will spread and create pretty ripples. You can use this as a visual representation of how kindness spreads. When we do an act of kindness (dabbing the Q-tip), it spreads more kindness (the spreading of the food coloring) and makes the world a much more beautiful place (the pretty outcome in the dish)!
#2. Spin-A-Color “Love is Kind” Activity Page
Your students can use this printable to color a “Love is Kind” paper quilt! You’ll need a paper clip and pencil for them to do this. They can spin the paper clip and then pick something on the quilt to fill in that color. You could also print this out on cardstock and have them paint it instead!
#3. Create a Kindness Quilt Square
*FYI – this is the same download as above! Both activities are included in this download.
After reading, “The Kindness Quilt” you can use this printable to have your kiddos create their own kindness square! You could even make it a family project and then tape them altogether to make a family kindness quilt!
Snack
Snack time today is a jelly donut! This is meant to tie in with the, “Jelly Donut Difference” book that we’ll be reading today. Not going to lie, as much as I’d love to make a homemade sourdough version of this, I’m going to guess that because of time, we’ll be hopping into the car and taking a trip to the local donut shop instead! 😂 If you don’t want to do donuts, you could think of something else with jelly (even jelly toast).
Books
(Note: Everyone has different book standards! I highly suggest skimming through any books before reading them to your kids, just to make sure it aligns with your family values first) 🩷
Today we’ll be reading, “The Jelly Donut Difference: Sharing Kindness with the World” by Maria Dismondy and “The Kindness Quilt” by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace.
If you were unable to grab these books from the library or store, here are read aloud options on YouTube!
