We’re learning about mysterious Arctic wolves today 🐺
You can find all of my printables and activity ideas for today by scrolling below! ❄️
Are you new to Winter School 2024? No worries! You can learn more about it here and join our Winter School FB group as well🙂 If you need to print out the Winter School Calendar, scroll to the bottom of this post and pop your email in so I can send it to you!
Keep reading below for more about Arctic Wolf Day!
Day #8. Arctic Wolf Day!
Here is some of what we are planning to do on Wednesday! 🙂
Activities
IMPORTANT NOTE: These printable activities will be FREE for you to download, but only until Arctic Wolf Day is over! So, make sure to download them even if you are going to do Arctic Wolf Day later in the week – that way you can still snag them for free. If you could leave a review behind afterwards, that would be amazing too! THANK YOU!! 🥰❤️
#1. Arctic Wolf Howling at the Moon Process Art
Download and print this printable here! Have your kids grab a piece of painting paper and create a winter scene and/or process art with winter colors. A salt painting would be fun (sprinkling salt on the paint before it dries – like in the picture below).
Once they are done with their painting and it is dry, they can cut out the moon and the wolf. Complete the project by gluing the wolf and the moon onto the painting!
#2. Label the Arctic Wolf Worksheet
This Label the Arctic Wolf Worksheet comes with a word bank at the bottom of the page and an answer key on the next page.
I’m going to have my kids continue to do these label worksheets after watching the educational videos (those links are below if you scroll down).
#3. Arctic Wolf Mini Research Book (Writing Activity)
I made this mini book project so that my kids could have something in hand to take notes on while we watch some of the educational videos below.
I’ve found that it’s really helpful to build their listening skills and to help them pay better attention, if they have some specific information to listen for.
You will want to print these two pages DOUBLE-SIDED and flip it on the short edge. Cut once down the blue line. Fold both pieces of paper and then tuck the bottom piece into the top piece. Make sure the page numbers line up before stapling shut.
Snack
Snack time today is Arctic Wolf Toast (or a sandwich)!
All you’ll need is a piece of toast (cut like the photo below), apple slices, and blueberries. Or, instead of toast, cut a sandwich into a wolf shape!
Books
(Note: Some of these books are new to me, so be sure to skim it beforehand if you want to make sure it’s something your family values align with).
Today we’ll be reading, “Arctic Wolves (Animals That Live in the Tundra)” by Maeve T. Sisk and “Wolf in the Snow” by Matthew Cordell.
If you were unable to grab these books from the library or store, here are the read aloud options on YouTube! And an extra book option I just ran across!
Educational Videos
Pick and choose (or watch all of) the videos below to learn more about Arctic Wolves! ❄️
Meet an Arctic Wolf at the Edmonton Valley Zoo!
Here is a longer documentary about arctic wolves for older kids. As always, watch this with your child in case it becomes too much (I wasn’t able to preview this video).
Do You Have More Time? Here Are Some Extra Ideas!
#1. Maybe it’s because we love trips to Great Wolf Lodge and this reminds me of the wolf pack howl that they would do at night…but I thought an Arctic Wolf howling contest would be a fun break from school and crafts! I might also regret it, who knows 😆 but if you have some restless kids, it might be just the thing to get some energy out of their system!
#2. If your kids want to create a wolf mask, grab a paper plate and cut out two small holes for their eyes. They can color, paint, or decorate the rest of the paper plate to look like a wolf face!
#3. Follow along to draw this wolf over at Art for Kids Hub.
I hope you guys enjoyed learning about Arctic wolves! 💙 If you need to print out the Winter Calendar still, drop your email below and I’ll send it right over!
PS: Check back soon for my blog post about Seal Day! 🙂
