Today is all about starting to map out their gardens!
Are you new to these monthly themes? No worries! You can join our FB group and print out the May School Calendar to get started! Just scroll to the bottom of this post and pop your email in so I can send it to you!
Keep reading below for Garden Map Day activities and printables!
Day #3. Garden Map Day!
Here is what we have planned for today! 🙂 Did you want to download and print out everything for this month all at once? You now can! Grab the Garden School Activity Pack here!
This 78-page PDF bundle comes with every printable you’ll need for this month PLUS extra printables like vocabulary cards, grocery list, master supply list, suggested reading list, and a teacher guide for each day! It is great for saving time by downloading and printing everything all at once! You’ll also receive a May School bookmark and punch card for your kids to use as they move through each themed day. 🥰
Activity Ideas
IMPORTANT NOTE: Most of these printable activities will be FREE for you to download, but only during Garden Map Day! So, make sure to download them even if you are going to do Garden Map Day later in the week – that way you can still snag them for free. If you could leave a review behind afterwards, that would be amazing too! THANK YOU!! 🥰❤️
#1. Learn about Square Foot Gardening
Watch this video to introduce your kids to square foot gardening!
#2. Play This Square Foot Garden Grid Game
My kids LOVED playing this with me while I tested it out last week! You’ll roll two dice and use the coordinates to find the box. Cross it off. Whoever has the most boxes crossed off once they are all filled, wins!
#3. Create Your Garden Layout Art Project
If your younger students don’t have a good idea of their layout, have them use these printables to color or fill in each section.
#4. Design Your Garden Plan
Do you have older students? Encourage them to use grid paper to design their garden (real or imaginary).
#5. Themed Snack Idea
While you read (or listen to) the books below, have the garden themed snack idea below! Take graham crackers and put a small layer of frosting on top (or yogurt for a healthier option). Use a knife or toothpick to create grid lines. Put a small item inside each square (or let your kids decide how they want to “map out their square foot garden snack”).
#6. Read or Listen to a Book!
(Note: Everyone has different book standards! I highly suggest skimming through any books before reading them to your kids, just to make sure it aligns with your family values first) 🩷
While you enjoy snack time, wrap things up with a garden-inspired book! You’re welcome to read any of the suggested books in the Garden School bundle, but at our house today we’ll be reading, ”Planting a Rainbow” by Lois Ehlert and “The Great Garden Escape” by Erica Clymer.
If you were unable to grab these books from the library or store, here are the read aloud options on YouTube!
Do you have older kids? I suggest having them read 1-2 chapters from, “The Secret Garden”!
I hope that you and your family had a wonderful time learning together today! If you need to print out the May Calendar still, drop your email below and I’ll send it right over!
