It is great for saving time by downloading and printing everything all at once! You’ll also receive a May School bookmark and punch card for your kids to use as they move through each themed day. 🥰
Activity Ideas
IMPORTANT NOTE: Most of these printable activities will be FREE for you to download, but only during Garden Soil Day! So, make sure to download them even if you are going to do Garden Soil Day later in the week – that way you can still snag them for free. If you could leave a review behind afterwards, that would be amazing too! THANK YOU!! 🥰❤️
#1. Learn about Soil!
I recommend watching this video from SciShow Kids Channel before beginning the activities for today!
#2. Where Does Soil Come From?
Here is another great video about soil from the SciShow Kids Channel!
#3. Do a Soil Experiment!
Watch this video and do an experiment with the soil where you live!
#4. Soil Layers Worksheet
Use this soil layers worksheet to review the information learned from the videos! Students can write the answers in the blank spaces or cut and glue the boxes.
#5. Jar of Soil Layers Tape Resist Art Project
Print this PDF out on cardstock. Tape thin washi tape across the jar in different areas. Paint the jar. Peel off the tape to reveal the layers. Label the layers (optional).
#6. Themed Snack Idea
While you read (or listen to) the books below, have the garden themed snack idea below! Create some healthy avocado or yogurt chocolate pudding OR get some chocolate pudding cups and add crushed Oreos on top for a sweet snack today.
#7. Read or Listen to a Book!
(Note: Everyone has different book standards! I highly suggest skimming through any books before reading them to your kids, just to make sure it aligns with your family values first) 🩷
While you enjoy snack time, wrap things up with a garden-inspired book! You’re welcome to read any of the suggested books in the Garden School bundle, but at our house today we’ll be reading, ”Up In The Garden and Down In The Dirt” by Kate Messner.
If you were unable to grab the book from the library or store, here is the read aloud option on YouTube!
Do you have older kids? I suggest having them read 1-2 chapters from, “The Secret Garden”!
I hope that you and your family had a wonderful time learning together today! If you need to print out the May Calendar still, drop your email below and I’ll send it right over!
