It’s Leap Day this Thursday!
Are you looking for some fun ways to celebrate and teach your kids about why we have this extra day every four years?
Here are some of my favorite free and/or frugal resources to use!
10 Ideas to Celebrate Leap Year!
#1. Silly Frogs Happy Leap Year Paper Crown
Pick out a silly frog template and make some festive paper hats to celebrate February 29th!
This PDF bundle includes 7 different silly frog faces and 4 different banner backgrounds. It also includes a black and white version, so that your students have the option to color their frog hat and headbands.
PS: You can save 20% by grabbing my Leap Year bundle activity pack!
#2. Make a Leap Year Time Capsule
Create a time capsule to open on the next Leap Day in 2028! Here are some printables that your students can fill out and put inside. You could also add little trinkets, photos, etc.
I plan to use a large envelope from the Dollar Tree. They can fill out their printables and put them inside the envelope once they are finished. This PDF comes with a label that they can cut out and glue on the envelope too.
Then I’ll tuck this away in their school memory boxes and put a reminder in my phone to open the envelope back up next Leap Year!
#3. Happy Leap Year Coloring Page
Here are two free simple coloring pages – just print and color! Or print it out on cardstock and let your kids paint. 😊
#4. Why Are There Leap Years?
Are you short on time? Here is a short 2-minute explanation for kids!
#5. Why Do We Have Leap Years?
Want to learn more about the history of Leap Year and why we have it!? This longer 8-minute video from Dr. Binocs is a great option.
#6. Read the Book, “Leap’s Day”!
Here is a book about Leap Day!
#7. Read the Book, “Leap Day”!

#8. Read the Book, “Leopold’s Long Awaited Leap Year Birthday”!
