Today is only ONE WEEK away from Thanksgiving! How crazy is that?! Even though I feel slightly anxious to have everything ready for next week, I’m so excited to celebrate! In fact, we’ve already started to celebrate by making these Thankful Turkey Headband craft! The kids had a blast cutting out and taping these together (and wearing them, of course).
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays! Not only is it close to my birthday, but I also love to bake so naturally celebrating a holiday that involves a lot of cooking is fun for me 🙂
I also love having a dedicated time to focus on gratitude, especially when it comes to our homeschool projects. Teaching our kids what it looks like and means to be grateful is so important. I’m thankful (hah!) that we have a dedicated holiday as a reminder to take time to talk about this more with them.
One of the projects we did were these turkey hats! My kids are definitely very crafty, so they were excited to see this Thankful Turkey printable as I laid it out on the table.
If you download this PDF, there are two options when printing it out…you can choose between a colored version OR a black & white version. It just really depends on how much your kids want to color 🙂
How To Make This Thankful Turkey Headband Craft
This printable is super easy and low-prep. You’ll only need this PDF, scissors, glue, tape, and crayons (or whatever your kids/students want to use to color it). Just print it out and start putting it together!
If you can, use cardstock or some sort of heavier printer paper. This will help the feathers stand up better 🙂
If you are using the black and white version, start off with coloring the printable! You’ll want to then fill out the gratitude feathers. It will be much easier to get this done before everything is put together.
Next, you’ll want to cut out the headband strips, like in this photo below.
The next thing to do is to glue on the turkey’s face! You can see what that looks like below.
After that, you’ll want to tape the headband strips together and then measure it around your child’s head before taping it completely closed. Then it will be time to tape the feathers in the back of the headband!
You’re done! Now your students are ready to proudly wear their creation 🙂
And just in case you need it, I did include a step-by-step instruction guide in the PDF.
I hope you and your kiddos have a blast creating these! And that it starts some good discussions about what they are thankful for. Please feel free to drop a photo and/or comment below – I’d love to see how they turned out!
PS: Want another project? If you have some little ones who would enjoy an easy painting project, make sure to grab this FREE turkey template below! It’s great for dot, Q-tip, or sponge painting techniques 🙂 You can find it over at this blog post here. Happy Thanksgiving!!
