It seems so crazy to me that it is almost Thanksgiving! Where has the time gone?! This past week was our last co-op class before Thanksgiving break, so we made sure to do a turkey theme in our preschool class and these simple templates were such an easy art project! You can grab it for free by scrolling to the bottom of this page 🙂
Thanksgiving is easily one of my favorite holidays. I always already in a baking mood as soon as fall hits, so baking pies and putting together a big meal is something I enjoy doing 🙂
I also honestly am not a fan of scary stuff and Halloween – so it’s like a breath of fresh air when November hits and the focus is on gratitude (and hints of Christmas coming!)
This past week, we studied turkeys in our co-op preschool class!
We started off watching this short YouTube video about turkeys. If you’d like to watch this with your kiddos, you can find it here: Fun Facts About Turkeys!
After having a fun discussion about turkeys and what we all thought about them, we set out these templates and let the kids start cutting out the turkey face. Once it was cut out, they glued it on the circle and started painting the feathers with Q-tips! You can use paint brushes, regular sponges, or anything else of course.
If you are doing this at home, it might be easier to paint everything first and then glue the turkey face on once it is dried. We just glued it on first, because I knew the paint wouldn’t be dry before it was time to go home 🙂

Thanksgiving Turkey Painting Template
This printable is super easy and low-prep. Just print it out on cardstock and start painting!
You could also use crayons, markers, or pencils. Or use a glue stick and crepe paper to create a 3D turkey art project!
Materials Needed:
- Cardstock (or heavy printer paper)
- Glue
- Scissors
- Your favorite paint
- Paintbrush
- Cup of water
- Paper towel or something to dry off your brush
If you are painting this, just be sure to print the template out onto cardstock or some sort of heavier printer paper.
Going the glue and crepe paper route? Just make sure to have some glue handy and cut out your crepe/tissue paper beforehand into small squares. You will want your student to crumple up each square individually and glue them on one at a time.
*Make sure that they only crumple and glue one piece on at a time! If they use too many pieces of paper squished together at once, it won’t stick well to the paper or hold the crumpled look.
I hope you and your little ones have fun with these turkey art projects! Drop a photo and/or comment below – I’d love to see how they turned out!
