It’s TREE ORNAMENT DAY!🎄
I’ve been working all weekend prepping things for Monday. It is driving my kids nuts to watch, because they want to do all of these things right now! 😆
However, even if we weren’t saving it for Monday, we’re spending today actually catching up and doing our Gingerbread Day activities instead. Friday got away from us with our Christmas Co-op party and then my youngest wasn’t feeling good once we were home, so he just wanted cuddle time with me. ❤️
So, because of that, Saturday (& Sunday) became our Gingerbread Day (mostly for my older two, since my youngest still isn’t feeling that well).
And it’s safe to say, my kids are looking forward to Monday activities too after seeing how excited they got watching me print and test my printables out today. Keep reading below to see more about what I’ve got planned!
Are you visiting for the first time? You are still able to grab my free Christmas school calendar! You can download it below and you can also join our Christmas School FB group here 🙂 It is full of the most wonderful mommas!
Each special day on the calendar will get it’s own blog post – full of activity directions, printables, YouTube audiobook stories, and anything else to help make this EASY on you. Because the whole point of Christmas School is to pick what your kids would enjoy the most and then just have fun together. Don’t plan to do EVERYTHING (unless you guys are feeling ambitious that day 😉 ).

Day #7. Tree Ornament Day!
Here is what we are planning to do on Monday 🙂
Just a reminder that my kids are in 4th, 2nd, and PreK grades. If you have different ages and feel like what we are doing isn’t something your kids would be interested in, feel free to scroll below! I’ll add more activity ideas at the bottom of each blog post.
Activities
Today we’ll be doing some ART using these ornament templates I uploaded to my shop! There are so many different ways you can use them (see further below), so I’ll leave it up to my kids as to which project they want to create with them. I also made some Christmas Tree Ornament worksheets – my youngest will be doing this pattern worksheet and then we’ll all play this simple math game 🙂
#1. Tree Ornament Art Project
I made something similar to this back in the fall (leaf templates) and my kids really enjoyed painting them, so I thought it would be great to repeat that!
There are 20 template options to choose from – plus, I just updated it to include some mini-versions of these ornament templates (in case you have older kids who want to paint these and actually hang them on the tree).
There are so many ways to use these. Your kids can use paint, markers, or crayons to paint and color them, of course!
You can also use cut up pieces of crepe paper, crumple them, and glue it on to create a 3D kind of art project!
You could also use some of the templates and some washi tape to turn this into a tape resist art project! Peeling the tape off afterwards is the BEST, most satisfying part! 😆
Do your kids want smaller versions of these ornaments to make and hang on the tree? That option is in this PDF too! 😊
#2. Tree Ornament Pattern Worksheets
Do you have a little one working on patterns? Try using these two ornament pattern worksheets! There is a blank option for them to create their own ornament patterns and there is an option to circle what comes next in the pattern.
#3. Try out this simple math game!
Practice simple addition, subtraction, and multiplication with this math game! The only thing you’ll need are a couple dice and some pompoms (or any other manipulatives to “decorate the Christmas tree” – playdoh would work great too!).
If you have a laminator, laminate these sheets so that your child can use it to write their answers on it over and over again.
If you don’t have a laminator, just have your child set the dice above the line instead of writing the number they rolled each time.
How To Play:
Students will roll both dice and then practice ordering the numbers from greatest to least, by writing the bigger number they rolled on the first line of the problem.
Then they will write the smaller number on the second line.
After that, they will solve the problem and decorate the Christmas tree according to the answer!
#4. Make this Marbled Ornament!
This craft is perfect for the kiddos to give away as gifts! This is actually what my kids made last year for some of our family.
It’s super easy. You just need some clear plastic ornament balls, some acrylic paint, and ribbon. You’ll take the top off of the ornament, put some squirts of 2-4 different paint colors inside, and let the kids swirl it around until the entire ornament is covered. These can turn out so pretty!
You’ll have to drain them into something, like a plastic bowl or cup. And then they will have to dry, so you will need to make it a few days before you give them away as gifts.
After they are dry, put the tops back on and tie a pretty ribbon on it!
Here is a video tutorial so you can see how it works. 😊
Snack
I’ll be doing crackers with peanut butter on them – I’ll cut up some raisins and marshmallows to make (or attempt anyways haha) some designs. You could do this with bagels and cream cheese OR crackers with veggie dip and cut up vegetables for the design on top. Or you could cut their sandwiches into a circle and add some chocolate chips or tiny candies on top to make it look like an ornament. 😊
Want something sweeter or for dessert later? You could make these brownie ornaments!
Books
(Note: I only skimmed these books, so be sure to skim it also if you want to make sure it’s something your family values align with).
Today we’ll be reading “The Broken Ornament” written by Tony DiTerlizzi. We’ll also read “Oliver the Ornament” by Todd M. Zimmermann.
Here are the YouTube Read Aloud links for these books 🙂
Do You Have More Time? Here Are Some Extra Ideas!
#1. Put Christmas music on (or a favorite Christmas movie) and string popcorn together as a family for your tree.
#2. Go on a virtual field trip! Watch this video to see how glass ornaments are made in factories!
#3. Want to learn more about the history of ornaments (and some other Christmas decorations)? Check out this video!
#4. Do your kids enjoy drawing? Follow along with one of these cute cartoons from Art for Kids Hub!
I hope you guys have a wonderful day! I can’t wait to see everything you and your kids create and do! Check back soon for my Christmas Sweater Day post 🙂
